Will people go to hell because they havenโ€™t heard about Jesus?

ย

ย ย ย ย  Some people ask this question to cast doubt on whether God is fair. But it is a legitimate question, so letโ€™s explore it.

  • The bible is very clear that no one comes to God except thru Jesus (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)
  • 1stย Timothy 2:4 declares that God โ€œโ€ฆdesires all men to be saved.โ€ 2ndย Peter 3:9 says that God desires that โ€œโ€ฆno one should perish but that all should come to repentence.โ€
  • Job 34:12 says that God is fair & just
  • Acts 8:26-35 describes a sincere person seeking to know the truth. Soย God sent him a missionary, Philip, to explain everything to him.

ย

Another good example of this isย Helen Keller. She was blind & deaf. When she finally learned to communicate with the outside world, someone told her about Jesus. Her response wasโ€ฆSo thatโ€™s His name. Iโ€™ve known Him for years, I just didnโ€™t know His name. God had revealed Himself to her even though she was blind & deaf.

  • Finally, all people know instinctively, that there is a God. But some of these people wonโ€™t believe in God no matter what. They are without excuse (Romans 1:18-20 & 3:11)

ย ย ย ย  So itโ€™s not the case of God not getting His message to someone who is seeking after the truth (Acts 10:34,35).ย To anyone who honestly desires to know God, He will somehow reveal Himself to them. He gives everyone some light. If they want more, He will give them more. If they donโ€™t want more, He will honor that also. Will people go to hell because they havenโ€™t heard of Jesus? No! God will reveal Himself to everyone that wants to know. What they do with it is up to them.

The Mind Of Christ

Those who have the mind of Christ are able to discern spiritual things that the natural man (or the unbeliever) cannot understand or see.ย ย 1 Corinthians 2:16

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect"ย (Romans 12:2).ย Our minds need to be consistently renewed, moving away from the mind of the flesh and into the mind of Christ.ย

Having the mind of Christ means weย โ€œlook at life from our Saviourโ€™s point of view, having His values and desires in mind. It means to think Godโ€™s thoughts and not think as the world thinks.โ€ย

The Bible teaches us that we must first trust Christ as our Savior to receive the Holy Spirit who enables us to have the mind of Christ. Having the mind of Christ gives the ability to understand and know the deep things of God, which will help us have victory in our life and have confidence that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us Philippians 4:13.

Philippiansย 4: 3- 9.ย Lord is near.ย 6ย Do not be anxiousย orย worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.ย 7ย And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

8ย Finally believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorableย andย worthy of respect, whatever is rightย andย confirmed by Godโ€™s word, whatever is pureย andย wholesome, whatever is lovelyย andย brings peace, whatever is admirableย andย of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, thinkย continuallyย on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].ย 9ย The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peaceย andย well-being will be with you.

Alleged errors in the bible

Alleged errors in the bible

Do you feel embarrassed when someone points what seems to be an error in the bible and you have no answer for it? Fear not! Chances are very good that this question has been asked and answered many times in the last 2,000 years. All you have to do is a little digging to find the answer.ย Such a questioning spirit, far from being denounced, is endorsed by the bible itself when it says to โ€œโ€ฆtest everything. Hold on to what is good.โ€ (1stย Thessalonians 5:21).

ย ย ย ย  A funny thing about skeptics is that they know what they believe but most of them have NEVER sought out what Christians believe about their โ€œerrorsโ€. Weโ€™ll look at 5 types of errors in the bible;
โ€“ inconsistencies
โ€“ New Testament quotations of Old Testament passages
โ€“ historical errors
โ€“ scientific errors
โ€“ moral errors

Bible Inconsistencies:

โ€“ Genesis 7:4 says the Flood lasted 40 days but Genesis 7:11 says it lasted one full year. Verse 4 says the rain fell for 40 days while verse 11 says it took one year for the waters to dry up enough for Noah and his family to leave the Ark and step on to dry land.
โ€“ Genesis 6:19 says at least 2 of โ€œall that livesโ€ went into the Ark.ย  But Genesis 7:2 says that 7 pairs of clean animals and 2 pair of every unclean animal went into the Ark. Genesis 7:2 is just more specific than Genesis 6:9, delineating the difference between clean and unclean animals.
โ€“ Genesis 11:31 says Abraham came from Ur (in southern Iraq) but Genesis 29:4-13 says he came from Haran (in northern Iraq). If you look at an ancient map, youโ€™ll see that Abraham originally came from Ur, then his family moved to Haran where he received his call from God.
โ€“ Genesis 22:2 calls Isaac Abrahamโ€™s only son but Genesis 16: 1,2 15 said he had Ishmael before that and Genesis 25:1,2 says he had other sons. Ishmael was conceived with a concubine and his other sons were conceived with his 2ndย wife. Isaac, who was conceived with his 1stย wife Sarah, was the child of promise (Genesis 17:16,19) and the rightful, primary heir (Genesis 25:5,6). Isaac was the only โ€œson of the covenantโ€.
โ€“ the two separate creation accounts in Genesis 1:1-2:3 and Genesis 2:4-25. But theyโ€™re not separate accounts. Genesis 1 is a more general, chronological account of the creation of the cosmos and earth. Genesis 2 is a more specific account of Adam and Eveโ€™s creation. Theyโ€™re

not separate accounts but complimentary accounts.

Alleged Errors of New Testament quotations of Old Testament scriptures:

ย ย ย ย  New Testament authors appear to misquote Old Testament scriptures often. Matthew 4:14-16 quotes Isaiah 9:12 but the quotation doesnโ€™t match Isaiah in either the Greek or Hebrew version. These types of examples can be easily explained by knowing something of Jewish culture. Jews in Jesusโ€™ time quoted the bible by memory. Copies of the scriptures were not plentiful as the printing press hadnโ€™t been invented yet. But quoting anything from memory usually doesnโ€™t come out verbatim. Also, they sometimes only had access to a very loose Aramaic paraphrase of the Hebrew quotation. Its little wonder that the texts are not word-for-word quotations, but none of them are contradictory to the other scriptures. The Jews of that time understood these quotations quite well. There was never a disagreement with what they meant until hundreds of years later.

Alleged Historical Errors:

ย ย ย ย  For example, Genesis 14:14 describes Abram pursuing the surviving kings of Sodom and Gomorrah to the city of Dan, which wasnโ€™t called that in Abramโ€™s day. But this isnโ€™t an error. Some of the Old Testament events were passed on orally before they were written down. When they were written down, the writer often referred to their names at that point. It would be like someone saying the Indians occupied the land of Detroit (even though it wasnโ€™t named Detroit at that time).

ย ย ย ย  A more serious discrepancy is when Genesis 23 refers to Abraham buying a cave from a Hittiteโ€ฆor that Bathshebaโ€™s husband Uriah was a Hittite (2ndย Samuel 1). Until 1906, we knew nothing of Hittites archaeologically. Many archaeologists thought this was an error in the bible. But in 1906, archaeologist Hugo Wuickler found more than 10,000 clay tablets of the royal Hittite library.ย The Hittite nation was located right where the bible said it was.ย There are still many people, places and events in the bible that we donโ€™t have proof that they existedโ€ฆyet. But we have proof of so many other things that itโ€™s probably just a matter of time before we find them. Remember, archaeology is a relatively new science. Itโ€™s just in the 19thย & 20thย centuries that most of these places have even been excavated.

ย ย ย ย ย Nearly 100 biblical people, dozens of biblical cities and over 60 historical details in Johnโ€™s Gospel, plus many other things have been confirmed thru archaeological research. The Israeli Antiquities Authority has over 100,000 artifacts that have been discovered in Israel alone since 1948.

Alleged Scientific Errors:

ย ย ย ย  Leviticus 11:19 calls a โ€˜batโ€™ a bird. Leviticus 11:21-24 says grasshoppers and beetles โ€œwalk on all foursโ€. But insects have 6 legs, not 4.
But these โ€œerrorsโ€ are just an attempt to impose scientific language on passages that werenโ€™t meant to be read that way. Today, we often say that the Sun rises at 6AM. Scientifically speaking, the Sun doesnโ€™t move. So, are we lying when we say that? Of course not!ย  That language is not meant to be taken scientifically.ย  Now letโ€™s look at the above examples in light of this:
-Leviticus 11:19โ€ฆthe Hebrew word for โ€œbirdโ€ could also be translated โ€œflying thingโ€. In other passages, the same word is used for birds and bats. It just refers to them โ€œflyingโ€.
-Leviticus 11:21-24โ€ฆthe phrase โ€œwalks on all foursโ€ is just a colloquial expression, not a scientific one. It just means theyโ€™re walking on their legs. The modern phrase โ€œthe 4 corners of the Earthโ€ doesnโ€™t mean that the Earth is flat. Itโ€™s just a way of describing how far points on the Earth are separated from each other.ย In Psalm 6:6, the psalmist says he cried so much that he drenched his couch with tears. Do you really think if you touched his couch it would be wet? Of course it wouldnโ€™t be. Itโ€™s just a colloquial expression that means he cried a lot. The bible, being written in the everyday language of its time, has many such expressions.

ย ย ย ย ย Other errors skeptics say are impossible are things like:
-Jesus walking on water (Matthew 14:24) or
-a burning bush that isnโ€™t consumed (Exodus 3:2-5)
These arenโ€™t refutations. Theyโ€™re dogmatic assertions that miracles canโ€™t happen.ย We can answer these questions in two ways;
1)โ€ฆjust because we cannot understand it now doesnโ€™t mean it didnโ€™t happen. Many things weโ€™ve discovered in the last 100 years, past peoples would have said couldnโ€™t happen. An airplane flying is one of them.
2)โ€ฆif there is an all-powerful God who created the physical laws of the universe, does it make sense to say He couldnโ€™t abrogate those laws at His discretion?

Alleged Moral Errors:

ย ย ย ย  This is probably the biggest area of attack that skeptics and atheists launch against the bible. Noam Chomsky says, โ€œThe bible is one of the most genocidal books in historyโ€. Richard Dawkins says, โ€œThe God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fictionโ€ฆa petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak; homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously, malevolent bullyโ€. WOW! What a mouthful! But are these charges true?
In looking at the following verses, we have to say that God did order the Israelites to kill certain nations. Exodus 23:32-33ย  34:11-16 and Deuteronomy 7:1-6ย  20:16-18
Itโ€™s important to point out that these verses apply to these Canaanite nations only and areย  not meant to apply to just any nation.
OK, so what was it that God had against these Canaanite nations? We know from other scriptures and from history that the Canaanites practicedโ€ฆ
โ€“ sacrificing innocent children to their gods by burning them on altars
โ€“ bestiality (having sex with animals)
โ€“ gang rape
โ€“ very perverted sexual practices

ย ย ย ย  But God did not quickly judge the Canaanites. He gave these people hundreds of years to change their ways. Genesis 15:13-16 says that โ€œthe sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measureโ€.ย There comes a point in some peoples lives where they will never change, no matter what. At that point, God stepped in to stop the carnage.ย These nations were cut off to prevent the corruption of the rest of the world and Israel (Deuteronomy 20:16-18).
Deuteronomy 9: 5 says, โ€œIt is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nationsโ€. When a nation starts burning its children as a gift to the gods (Leviticus 18:21) and practices sodomy, bestiality and all sorts of sinful behavior (Leviticus 18:25-30), judgement will come to stop the sin from spreading. Just as surgeons do not hesitate to amputate a gangrenous limb, so God will do the same. This is not doing evil so good may come. It is removing the cancer that would have eventually killed the good.

ย ย ย ย ย People who attack the bible on moral grounds usually make the mistake of anachronism. They apply our standards of justice to God acting back then.ย They donโ€™t realize that our standards of justice come from applying biblical standards over hundreds of years. God meets people where theyโ€™re at, not where weโ€™re at, and applies His justice to them. We forget that throughout history, barbarism has been the rule rather than the exception. Some examples areโ€ฆ
โ€“ archaeological excavations at Carthage, the west African colony, have found 20,000 urns of sacrificed infants. They believe that child sacrifice took place continuously for nearly 600 years. Child sacrifice was done for a number of reasons. Because some god demanded it, because you wanted a good harvest that year, or success in your business, etc.
โ€“ in theย palaceย relief of Assyrian king Ashur-nasir-pal II (884-859 BC), his armies are cheerfully depicted skinning captured enemies alive, cutting off hands and feet and ears, pulling out tongues and eyes and decapitating mounds of heads to further terrify their enemies.

ย ย ย ย  But gradually, over centuries thru the words of His prophets, God lead His people to greater levels of compassion and mercy. Much of this can be seen in our course โ€œHow Christianity Changed the Worldโ€ on this website.

ย ย ย ย  Modern critics who say the bible justifies war and genocide are looking at isolated passages taken out of their historical and textual context. Remember war is just one of the punishments that God metes out for injustice and bloodshed. Isaiah 4:26,28 affirms this.

ย ย ย ย  What about the moral laws of Leviticus chapters 18 thru 20? Iโ€™ve done an FAQ on this atย http://BSSSB-LLC.com/why-are-some-old-testament-laws-valid-for-us-today-but-others-aren%27t.

Heart is like a mirror

The heart is like a mirror, people can see through everything
1. I have seen the prosperous life, but it is still the most dull and true. In life, it doesn't matter if you do something or not. Emotions, ignoring those who like you, and ignoring those who like you, itโ€™s not called fighting for bad. Good morning!

2. The most beautiful scenery in the world is that you have a kind heart, exuding a beautiful magnetic field and charm, wherever you go, you will be illuminated wherever you go, wherever you are warm, positive energy, righteousness, righteousness, righteousness, righteousness, righteousness and deeds, you donโ€™t have to admire Others, you are the most beautiful scenery, sunshine, kindness, upward, take every step of your own! Dear friends. Good morning!

3. For a person who works moderately, happiness comes from work, just like having colorful petals before a flower bears fruit. Good morning!

4. No matter what everyone says, I think my feelings are correct. What you like can naturally be persisted, and what you donโ€™t like will not last long. Never envy someone elseโ€™s life, even if that person seems happy and rich. Never judge whether someone is happy, even if that person looks lonely and helpless. Good morning!

Fifth, life is not a race, it is a journey, and enjoy every part of the scenery. Good morning!

6. Good morning, find someone who can drive you positively, find someone who is like the sun, and help you expose all the confusion that is not worth mentioning!

Seven, the vast universe, the vague life, human life is more suffering than happiness, when we come to this world crying, it means that suffering will go with us, we are sad, angry, worried, but still suffering The perseverance in the middle is used to create our joy and the miracle of happiness.

8. No one cares about how much effort you have put in, whether you are tired or not, whether it hurts or not, they will only see where you stand in the end, and then envy and hate.

Sometimes I have to take a look at the bathroom mirror and look at myself in the mirror, so that I can understand myself more clearly!

What is the Difference Between Good and Righteous?

A good deed is usually accepted with open arms. Righteous deeds on the other hand don't always receive praise and gratitude like good deeds do. What is the difference between good and righteous? How is Jesus Different from Otherย Religious Leaders?

ย ย ย

ย ย ย ย  ย Many religions believe in Jesus.ย The Bible even says the demons believe in Jesus (James 2:29โ€”โ€œYou believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe thatโ€”and shudderโ€). But what we need to determine is :
โ€“ย what do they mean by โ€œbelieveโ€?
โ€“ย how do they define Jesus?ย There is more than one Jesus (Matthew 24:23-26ย  โ€œโ€ฆFor false Christsโ€ฆwill appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possibleโ€ฆโ€). I can say I believe in Dave Maynard who lives in Jackson, Michigan but there are 3 Dave Maynards who live in Jackson, Michigan and they are all quite different people. You need to be more specific.
โ€“ย you need to determine if their definition of Jesus is correct.ย Three people may give you direction to a certain destination but if two of them are wrong and you believe them, youโ€™ll never reach your intended destination.

ย ย ย ย ย Now letโ€™s look at the two different types of belief.
โ€“ย one is just an acknowledgement of something.ย I believe the sky is blue but that doesnโ€™t impact my life. I will not dedicate my life to proving the sky is blue. This type of belief or acknowledgement has no effect on my life. The demons believe that Jesus is Lord but they donโ€™t allow that belief to transform them (James 2:29).
โ€“ย the other belief is a transformational belief.ย Christians not only believe in Jesus, they have received Him into their life. He comes in and transforms our lives (John 1:12ย  โ€œYet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.โ€).

ย ย ย ย  According to the most basic of laws, the law of non-contradiction says that โ€œAโ€ cannot be โ€œnon-Aโ€. If Islam says Jesus is one thing and Christianity says He is something different, both cannot be right. Either theyโ€™re both wrong or one is wrong and one is right.
Now letโ€™s look at how certain religions/belief systems define Jesus.

ย ย ย ย ย Christianityโ€ฆJesus is God in the flesh, a part of the trinity, God the Son, who came down from heaven, died for our sins, rose from the dead for our justification and will come back to set up Kingdom for all eternity.

ย ย ย ย ย Judaismโ€ฆJesus was just a human being, a Jew who some people mistakenly believed was the promised Jewish Messiah. He was a Jewish prophet who lived and died in 1stย century Palestine. There is only one God, not a trinity, and Jesus is not Him.

ย ย ย ย ย Islamโ€ฆJesus was a great prophet in a line of prophets (Moses, David, Solomon, Jonah, etc.) but Mohammed was the greatest prophet of all. Jesus lived and died in 1stย century Palestine. To say Jesus is God is blasphemy. Jesus was only a human being. They donโ€™t believe in the trinityย  nor do hey believe he was crucified.

ย ย ย ย ย Hinduismโ€ฆGod is an impersonal force, an undefinable thing. Hinduism recognizes thousands of lesser gods but theyโ€™re all part of one big impersonal force called Brahma. Jesus may be one of these lesser gods or just a human being. They donโ€™t believe in the trinity. He lived and died in 1stย century Palestine.

ย ย ย ย ย Buddhismโ€ฆmost Buddhists are atheists. Some Buddhists believe that Buddha was a god. Jesus may have been a teacher who lived and died in 1stย century Palestine. Jesus isnโ€™t really much of a factor in Buddhism. Obviously, they donโ€™t believe in the trinity.

ย ย ย ย ย Transcendental Meditationโ€ฆJesus is not God Almighty. He had the divine essence as a man. Unlike most people, He discovered His divine essence. Each part of creation makes up โ€œGodโ€. God is in you and me and in that tree, the mountains, sky, etc. God is not personal. God is an โ€œitโ€. They donโ€™t believe in the trinity. Jesus, as an enlightened man, lived and died in 1stย century Palestine.

ย ย ย ย ย Unity School of Christianityโ€ฆJesus is only a man who gained a โ€œChrist consciousness.โ€ Jesus had been reincarnated many times and lived many lives before. Jesus didnโ€™t die for our sins and will not return a 2ndย time. God is an impersonal entity, a principle. They donโ€™t believe in the trinity. Jesus was a human being who lived and died in 1stย century Palestine.

ย ย ย ย ย ย Mormonismโ€ฆGod is an office that you can be elevated to. Our God was once a man with a physic al body the same as ours. If youโ€™re a good Mormon in this life, you may become a Jesus on another world. Eventually you may become God on another world also. Jesus was created as a spirit child of God the Father and the Heavenly Mother. His earthly body was created thru a sexual union of God the Father and Mary. Mormons donโ€™t believe in the trinity.

ย ย ย ย ย Jehovahโ€™s Witnessesโ€ฆThere is one God called Jehovah. They do not believe in the trinity. Jesus is not God Almighty but he is a Mighty God, just lesser than God Almighty. Before He came to earth, he was Michael, the Archangel. Jesus is the first thing that Jehovah God created. Jesusโ€™ body decayed in the grave but his spirit was resurrected. Their belief is similar to the Arian heresy of the 4thย century that the early church condemned at the Council of Nicea (which is where we get the Nicene Creed from).

ย ย ย ย ย Christian Scienceโ€ฆJesus was not God. God has never been a human. He didnโ€™t die on the cross, wasnโ€™t resurrected and isnโ€™t coming back again. God is an impersonal life force. God is all that exists. Anything material (like you and me) is just an illusion. Jesus was just a man who displayed the Christ consciousness. Sin, evil, sickness and death are not real, only illusions. Jesus was a man who lived and died in 1stย century Palestine.

ย ย ย ย ย While there are many other religions, in all of them Jesus is either just a man who lived and died in 1stย century Palestine or he is one of many โ€œdivineโ€ people.
โ€“ in the Bible, Jesus claims to be God (John1:1, 8:58)
โ€“ that all other gods are false gods (Isaiah 44:6,8,9).
โ€“ He claims to be the only way to God (John 14:6)
Jesus claimed to be God and backed up those claims by fulfilling over 300 messianic prophecies, something that no one has come close to since. He also proved it by His resurrection from the dead. He left many historical proofs of this.

ย ย ย ย ย Either Jesus is who He claims to be or He is not.ย There is no middle ground. Who your definition of Jesus is, is extremely important. He only leaves you with 3 choices. Either Jesus is who He says He is or He is not. If He is not, then He is either a liar or a lunatic. But Jesus told people not to lie. How could a lunatic or a liar give the world the highest ethical teachings the world has ever known, a fact endorsed even by His critics? Not many sane people would call Jesus a lunatic or a liar. That only leaves one choiceโ€ฆthat He is God.
To those people who say He was only a good teacher, consider these claims of His;
-He told people that if they ate His flesh and drink His blood, they would have eternal life (John 6:53,54).
-He can give life to people after they die (John 11:25,26). In other words, He told people to trust Him with their eternal destiny.
-He is God (John 10:30)
โ€“ He will raise Himself from the dead (John 2:19-21)
If your science teacher said these things about himself, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™d run for the door and never come back. Jesus did not leave the good teacher option open for us.

ย ย ย ย ย All the other prophets or messiahs of other religions have died and are in the grave.ย Jesus is the only major religious figure to have conquered the grave. He is the only major religious figure to predict His own deathโ€ฆ.and resurrection. The bodies of all the other religious figures are in the grave. Jesusโ€™ grave has been empty for 2,000 years.ย  Even the Jewish religious leaders of His day didnโ€™t disagree that His grave was empty. They only tried to explain why it was empty. Their explanations fell flat (see โ€œThe Real Easter Storyโ€ on this website for verification of the empty grave).
Jesus was so different from all the other gods, guruโ€™s, messiahs, teachers or founders of all the other religions.ย He is so popular that all the other religions try to incorporate Him into their religion.ย While his has happened with a few other religious leaders that were put into a few other religions, Jesus has been put into almost every religion. No other religious leader comes close to His popularity.

ย ย ย ย  Then there are these other milestones:
โ€“ the Bible is the best selling book of all time
โ€“ Christianity has stood the test of time despite periods of severe persecution
โ€“ the Bible is quoted more thanย  any other book in history
โ€“ our calendar is centered around this obscure peasant born in a remote backwater village
โ€“ His short 3 years of ministry has effected the world more than any other personโ€™s entire life has.
โ€“ more people will willingly lay down their life rather than deny belief in Him
โ€“ more people have testified that He has changed their life for the better than any other person or god in the world throughout history.
โ€“ more books have been written about Him than any other person or movement in all of history.
โ€“ more compassionate ministries (Salvation Army, soup kitchens, orphanages, food pantries, medical care, grief care, etc.) have started and existed because of His command to feed the hungry, cloth the naked, etc.

ย ย ย ย  Yes, indeed, Jesus is far different from any other leader, religious or not, that world has ever known.
Who do you think Jesus is? Your eternal destiny hangs on your answer.

Doesn't the bible condone polygamy?

But didnโ€™t the Old Testament regularly include polygamists, like David (2ndย Samuel 5:13) and Solomon (1stย Kings 11:3)?

ย ย ย ย  First, letโ€™s get our definitions straight.ย Polygamyย is one person having several spouses.ย Polygynyย is one husband having several wives.ย Polyandryย is one woman having several husbands. Isnโ€™t is funny how polygyny is far more common than polyandry?

ย ย ย ย  Second, the Bible mentions marriage only in regard to one man and one womanย (Genesis 2:18-24). Jesus had a chance to include other arrangements in the definition of marriage but didnโ€™t (Matthew 19:3-5). He referred back to the original definition of marriage in Genesis. Paul reiterates this in many places (1stย Corinthians 6:15-17 & 7:2, 1stย Timothy 3:2,12 & Titus 1:6; notice these scriptures refer to a husbandโ€™s wife, not wives).

Third,ย  polygamy was NEVER commanded by God. It was only tolerated, like divorce, because of the hardness of our hearts (Matthew 19:8).ย Because it is โ€œdescribedโ€ in the Bible does NOT mean it is โ€œprescribedโ€. For example, the Bible records Davidโ€™s adultery but does not approve of it.

Fourth, the criticism of polygamy is expressed in Deuteronomy 17:17 when it says polygamy will lead your heart astray from God. This happened to Solomon in 1stย Kings 11:4. His legacy of faithfulness was compromised because of his polygamous behavior.

Fifth, Godโ€™s disdain for polygamy is seen in its consequences. Every polygamist in the Bible paid dearly for his sin.

Sixth, So, noย polygamy is not prescribed or approved of in the Bible. Marriage is only between one man and one woman. Any other arrangement is SIN.

ย ย ย ย  A biblical definition of marriage would be as follows;
Marriage is an exclusive heterosexual covenant between one man and one woman, ordained and sealed by God, preceded by a public leaving of parents, consummated in sexual union, issuing in a permanent mutually supportive partnership, and normally crowned by the gift of children.

Immunizing Children and Teens Helps Them Stay
Healthy and Protected Throughout the School Yearย

Give children a shot to stay healthy by reminding parents to keep up with their childโ€™s annual vaccinations. Vaccinations give kids extra protection and help reduce the risk of transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles and mumps. Routine medical visits and childhood vaccinations also play an important role in safely returning to school and extracurricular activities this fall.

National Immunization Awareness Month each August provides a great opportunity for organizations to promote the vaccination and preventive benefits for children who have or may be eligible for free or low-cost health insurance under Medicaid or the Childrenโ€™s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). With Medicaid and CHIP, families can access annual age-appropriate immunizations, booster shots, and flu shots for kids and teens up to age 19. A study from theย Centers for Disease Control and Preventionย found that the administration of key vaccines to children ages 2 to 17 declined between 60% and 70% from March to May of 2020 and that vaccine administration had not yet caught-up. Thatโ€™s another reason it is especially important during the Back-to-School season this year to remind parents and caretakers about the importance of keeping up with childhood vaccinations.

The Connecting Kids to Coverage National Campaign has a variety of resources to help parents rest easier knowingย childhood vaccinationsย and booster shots are covered. Organizations can use the free customizable materials in their outreach efforts year-round, including digital videos, palmcards, posters, infographics, social media messages, graphics, and more. Be sure to explore theย Outreach Tool Libraryย for all Campaign resources.

A Note About the Child Tax Credit and Public Charge
Starting on July 15, most families are eligible to receive monthly child tax credits payments of up to $250 per child ages 6-17 and $300 per child under age 6. Receiving this tax credit does not impact a familyโ€™s ability to qualify for Medicaid or CHIP. More information can be found atย childtaxcredit.gov.

And having Medicaid or CHIP wonโ€™t affect someoneโ€™s chances of becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident or U.S. citizen. The Department of Homeland Security will not consider applying for or receiving Medicaid or CHIP when making a โ€œpublic chargeโ€ determination (except Medicaid for long-term institutionalization, such as nursing home care). New Videos Available
Did you know that the Campaign has a series of digital videos which your organization can use in Medicaid and CHIP outreach and enrollment? Theseย new Campaign videosย can be used to encourage parents and caretakers to enroll their children in Medicaid and CHIP year-round to access important benefits like routine well-child visits and dental care. Here a few examples of the videos:

Remind parents to call their childโ€™s health care provider to schedule routine medical visits and vaccinations, especially if they missed any during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

  • โ€œSmiles for Schoolโ€ video inย Englishย andย Spanish

Let parents know about the oral health benefits covered by Medicaid and CHIP and why keeping up with their childโ€™s dental health before school starts is so important.

Upcoming Observances
To help prepare for the 2021-2022 school year, the Campaign has a variety ofย Back-to-School resourcesย that can help get the word out to parents and caretakers about Medicaid and CHIP.

Additional observances in September - October include:

  • Baby Safety Awareness Month (September)
  • National Preparedness Month (September)
  • National Suicide Prevention Week (September 5-11)
  • National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15)
