WGTS 91.9 invited their listeners all over the D.C. Metro area to make a difference in the community. On January 16, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the radio station hosted “Take Over Day” at Central Union Mission, one of Washington, D.C.’s, major homeless shelters. Central Union Mission is a faith-based non-profit organization with six locations throughout the D.C. Metro area.
Not only does Central Union Mission provide emergency shelters, but it also provides a food, clothing, and furniture distribution center as well as rehabilitation programs for people with life-controlling issues. Deborah Chambers, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement helped form a partnership with WGTS 91.9 for Take Over Day. With the leadership of both Chaplain Kumar Dixit and Deborah Chambers, WGTS 91.9 and Central Union Mission came together to provide hospitality, joy, and hope to the residents.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., individuals and groups of people signed up to help with various activities: preparing and serving meals, changing bed sheets, making sandwiches, and playing board games with the residents. Chaplain Kumar said, “The mission was so crowded with green-shirted volunteers. The cafeteria was split in two. One-half of the group was making sandwiches; the other half was playing board games with the residents. It was a beautiful sight to see.” Central Union Mission also gave tours to the volunteers who had a special interest and wanted more information about the organization.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Day, the Spiritual Care Department put together a special program for the residents. The mid-morning program started with everyone singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the black national anthem, followed by a poem, special music, spoken word, and a message from Pastor Paul Graham, senior pastor at Restoration Praise Center Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Later in the afternoon, a group of 30 volunteers signed up for a “prayer walk” led by Chaplain Kumar. The group spent 90 minutes walking throughout the whole mission, praying over each level, room, and bed in the mission. The prayer walk was such an inspiring activity for the volunteers and residents who witnessed them.
WGTS 91.9 concluded the Take Over Day with an evening worship service led by the WGTS Gateway Band. Kyle Alexander, lead singer of the band, said, “It was a, meaningful day I think everyone who was there left a little different than when they came.” Chaplain Kumar concluded the service with an inspirational thought.
Kumar Dixit, WGTS 91.9 Chaplain remarked on the day’s event, “I can’t believe how many of our listeners took the day off to serve. We are hoping to plan many more opportunities to serve as the Hands and Heart of Jesus.”
WGTS 91.9 thanks God for an uplifting event and looks forward to a year of bringing unity and hope to the community.

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Sasha Obama lined up to serve dinner to residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Northwest on Wednesday. The residence has cared for the country's veterans for 165 years, President Obama said in a tweet. "I was honored to be a small part of that mission." Last year, the first family served homeless residents and veterans at Friendship Place Homeless Center.
As he served on Wednesday, the President shook hands, laughed, and chatted with residents about sports, among other things.
And earlier that day, he participated in his final Turkey Pardon ceremony. He brought his two nephews, Austin and Aaron, instead of Sasha and Malia who "had a scheduling conflict," he said. "Actually, they just couldn’t take my jokes anymore. They were fed up."

Today, native Washingtonian Singer/Songwriter Renea Sings is proud to announce the release of her long awaited project “Destiny”. “Destiny” is a song that expresses an empowering message that inspires people to pursue their destiny, regardless of where they find themselves in life.
Have you ever asked yourself questions like, “Why am I here? What is my purpose in life; or have ever felt like there has to be more to life. If you’ve ever been discouraged from reaching for your dreams, then “Destiny” is for you!” says Renea Sings. Her “Destiny” single airs online on November 12, 2016.
Renea Sings has performed in Washington DC and Las Vegas with the legendary William DeVaughn, best known for his 70’s hit “Be Thankful For What You Got”. She has also lent her talent to community events such as the Back to School Concert for Washington DC’s 1580 AM Radio, National Park Service Summer Concert Series, Bethesda Yacht Club with Jeff Majors, and Radio One Love Festival with the late Miss DC Community, Sheila Steward.
Renea’s music has a way of captivating her audience with her warm and transparent personality. Her music is a reflection of her experiences from becoming a teenage mom head of household at age 17 to performing LIVE in Las Vegas as a professional singer.
Renea understands what it feels like to experience hopelessness and despair. The songwriter says these issues affect everyone at some point in their lives, “whether you’re a millennial, generation x, latch key kid, or a baby boomer.”
Renea believes “Destiny” brings a relevant message of hope at a time in our country when many are feeling hopeless and despair over race relations and terrorism. “Destiny” will encourage listeners to “focus on the things we as a human race have in common, and to come together based on that, rather than focusing on our differences.” The singer says her song “will not resolve all your issues, but it will inspire hope.”

In our latest issue, Tim Tebow opens up about his disappointments and struggles after being cut from the NFL, and how he's found new hope for the future.
Tim Tebow’s heart sank as he stood in front of his locker holding a garbage bag. He stared at the jars of nutritional supplements and shakes that cluttered the shelf…then his eyes dropped to the New England Patriots uniform—a uniform he’d never put on again. You should have done more, Timmy, he thought as a wave of regret and shame washed over him. Why didn’t you push harder? Work out longer?
The Heisman Trophy–winning quarterback had been drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2010, then two years later traded to the New York Jets. After only a year, the Jets had let him go. He had high hopes when he was picked up by the Patriots, but they were dashed again when he was cut in the preseason.
Tim scooped his belongings into the trash bag, hugged and thanked his teammates and coaches, and walked out the door. “I was embarrassed. No team wanted me to do what I’d dreamed of doing since I was little,” Tim describes in his new book, Shaken. “I had no job, no car, no home. I’d let down people who’d looked up to me.”
But as Tim faced each blow, his faith remained a rock-solid foundation. “It was hard, but I knew God hadn’t left me,” he tells Simple Grace. “We’ve all been told that we’re not good enough, we’re not qualified, we’re not significant enough, that we can’t accomplish something. But every setback is God setting us up for something better. Sure, tough times are going to come again, but with God, they’ll be worth it.”
Read more about how God walked with Tim through this difficult time in the November issue of Simple Grace, on-sale now, and in Tim's wonderful new book Shaken.

So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God
Much have been written and discussed regarding faith and its essentiality to salvation and the Christian life, but for today's discussion our focus is on the word, work, and walk of faith.
Let's examine faith from the three perspectives:
(1) The word of faith is the hearing of the gospel of Christ and believing that Christ is God's Son who died for the sins of the world (you and I) and on the profession of that faith/belief we then are saved. How does one hear the gospel message? The gospel is spread through preaching, teaching and witnessing Christ (Acts 11:14; Matthew 25:18-20).
(2) The work of Faith is the convicting work of the Holy Spirit who convicts the unbelieving heart of the need for salvation and the promise of God that all believers will be partakers in His divine nature-righteousness (2 Peter 2:4). Christians then are born again into the body of Christ through His atoning work and convicting work of the Holy Spirit.
(3) The walk of faith is made possible by the word and work of faith which allows all believers to walk this Christian journey (2 Corinthians 5:7). How is this so? The Christian prospect must first hear God's Word then believe in his or her heart what he or she has heard while allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way, and then the faith walk journey begins.
Without faith there is no salvation.

Armageddon Within: The Final Fight
(Using Your Talents For Entrepreneurship)
By Kamal Imani
©2016
Although there are a multitude of things going on in the external world that can cause distractions, drama and dissatisfaction, are these things the real reason that are keeping you from going to the next level? Or, are there some internal voices that are giving you excuses that you tell to yourself so frequently that you actually begin to believe your own lie? Have you actually brainwashed or hypnotized yourself into the paralysis of analysis or self-conflict?
At times when we watch the news, surf the web, work, go to school, deal with family, friends and co-workers, we find that we need a break or vacation because if we don’t take those “mental health days” our lives may feel like we’re close to the biblical war of Armageddon. Although there are many realities that we must face, handle and conquer, I submit to you that the final fight is within. This is the fight of controlling and maintaining positive thoughts.
It seems like there is something in nature, some call it Murphy’s law (What can go wrong, will go wrong) that just happens shortly after we make a decision to go out and achieve a goal or dream. When we decide to do something positive and life changing, here comes that opposition. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Whenever I learn the game, they change the rules”? Well, this is what happens in life. So in order for you and I to make it to the finish line we have to have those attributes that Napoleon Hill talks about in his book “Think & Grow Rich”. Qualities like desire, enthusiasm, persistence, auto-suggestion, and organized planning to name a few. They require positive and consistent thinking. You must think with a laser beam like focus. Yes, you must focus like a thoroughbred with blinders on so that you can win the race. As the Bible says “Walk by faith and not by site”. This means, that at first you may have a clear picture of your goals, but when you lose resources such as time, money or energy than all of a sudden, the finish line is no longer in sight and you want to quit or change course. Only positive and consistent thinking and renewing your mind will get you to the finish line. As the bible says “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”.
Yes, this is warfare! When you’re set out to achieve a victory and your negative voice comes up from within you and says “you can’t do that” or your friends, family or even a stranger says “you can’t do that” and they can even tell you all the reasons that you will fail, what are you going to do? Are you going to let their suggestion change your thinking and focus or are you going to have that strong positive voice rise up and say “Thanks, but I got this”, “Mind your business”, “I’m a winner”? In fact, you’ve already won. When speaking about embarking on new endeavors, I once heard Oprah Winfrey say “I take a deep breath and visualize the ending”. You have to use creative visualization to see the end result, in detail, of what you really want and then go to work for it. The more you focus, the more things will come together.
Remember, it’s war. A positive war perhaps, but trust me, war techniques will help you because sometimes you will advance, other times you will have to pause, at other times you may have to retreat. You may even have to “surrender” (spiritually, mentally) so that you can live to fight another day. In pausing, retreating and surrendering, you can refresh, renew, review and gather up new and additional resources to revive your campaign to the finish line!
So the war is against self-conflict! As long as you’re indecisive and that little angel on one shoulder is battling with that little angel on the other shoulder, you’re going to be a hot mess. Trust me, I was there for a long time and the main solution to winning is to listen to the little angel and take swift bold action! Challenge your fears, which are really paper tigers, as the Nike slogan says “Just do it”. Get started, just do it. I don’t know about you, but I see jobs (just over broke) leaving our country and disappearing due to technology and automation. This should be encouraging enough to make one use their talents and find ways to market them.
Then there is, as they often mention in network marketing, “your why”. This is your strong reason(s) for doing what you want and need to do in order to have financial freedom and live the lifestyle of your dreams in which you truly deserve! Can you imagine a time of financial pain that you would never want to revisit? Are you tired of things repeating in your life in a circular manner? Than who are you waiting for to fix it? Is your why strong enough to make you desire to get out of your comfort zone and go all out for your goals and dreams? You’re why could be your children, your lover, your “I’m not going back there anymore”.
My earliest memories of life where in Harlem, where I was born and the Bronx where I was partially raised by my single mother. I had 2 little sisters, both with separate fathers. I saw things in the inner city that no child should see and I ran from bullies and thieves that were frightening. I was recruited by a gang at the age of 7 and of course there was peer pressure. Worst of all, I would see my mother faint and have nervous breakdowns due to being overworked and underpaid while trying to raise us without steady child support from our fathers. Even when we moved to the suburbs of Teaneck New Jersey, our lights or heat would sometimes be off. At other times my mother would say “Listen, don’t eat all of the food in one day because I don’t get paid again until Friday”. I promised my Mother that I would buy her a house one day. She has passed away and I hope to give all and more to my wife, son, family and leave a legacy of owning and not renting. This is my why. People tell me that I’m always hustling, moving and working, but I’m doing what I love and I feel the passion! You have to have passion! So I’m consistently thinking positive and I’m determined to win this war of Armageddon within!

It's Life Insurance Awareness Month!
Are you looking out for those you love?
September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. This makes it the perfect time to look out for loved ones by looking into life insurance.
At JCA Insurance Planners, we’re proud to work with Life Happens, a nonprofit organization, to raise awareness of the need for life insurance and how it can help families protect their way of life.
Think about it. Every month, many of us pay for the insurance that protects our homes or cars. You’d think we’d give even more consideration to protecting our family’s financial future. Yet, according to a study by LIMRA International, 30% of U.S. households have no life insurance at all.
This lack of insurance could leave families having to pay for funeral expenses and medical bills out of their savings. Then they’d still have to cover their ongoing living expenses, such as their mortgage, utilities and health care.
Consider this:
Many Americans recognize the importance of life insurance. It provides both peace of mind and security to families that are confronted with the death of a loved one. The life insurance industry provides protection to 75 million American families, and in 2009 $59 billion were paid to life insurance beneficiaries. Even so, 95 million adults have no life insurance, while insured Americans have, on average, far less than most experts recommend.
Statistics show the need for greater awareness of life insurance and its benefits:
* Four in 10 adult Americans have no life insurance at all.
* Insured Americans, on average, have only about three-and-a-half times their annual income in life insurance coverage. Many insurance experts believe that people's true need for coverage is 10 times their gross annual income, and sometimes more.
* Only 35 percent of adult Americans have individual life insurance. Many rely on insurance provided by their employers, leaving many employees without coverage if they were to lose their job or change jobs.
* Each year, a significant number of Americans (600,000) die prematurely. In fact, the chances a 25-year-old male will die before reaching the retirement age of 65 is nearly 1 in 5; for a female, the odds are 1 in 9.
* When a premature death occurs, insufficient life insurance coverage on the part of the insured results in 75 percent of surviving family members having to take measures to meet financial obligations, such as work additional jobs or longer hours, borrow money, withdraw money from savings and investment accounts, and, in too many cases, move to smaller, less expensive housing.
For as little as $12 per month you can protect your family for $100,000 worth of life insurance with JCA Insurance Planners. Contact us today for a free quote!
