The manufacturing process of bitumen emulsion can be divided into the following four processes: bitumen preparation, soap preparation, bitumen emulsion, and emulsion storage.

  1. Bitumen Preparation

Bitumen is the major component of emulsified bitumen, which account for 50% to 65% of the total mass of emulsified bitumen in general. After spraying or mixing the emulsified bitumen, it is going to demulsify. Then the moisture is evaporated. And what remains on the road surface is the bitumen. Therefore, the preparation of bitumen is critical.

Choosing suitable brand and label of bitumen according to the use of emulsified bitumen. The preparation process of bitumen is mainly the process of heating and keeping the bitumen at the appropriate temperature.

During the process of bitumen preparation, the temperature control is very important. If the temperature of bitumen is too low, which will cause the bitumen to be sticky and the flow to be difficult. Thus it will also cause the emulsification to be difficult. If the temperature is too high, on the one hand, it will cause the bitumen aging. On the other hand, the temperature of the emulsified bitumen will be too high, which will affect the stability of the emulsifier and the quality of the emulsified bitumen.

  1. Soap Preparation

According to the different emulsified bitumen, choose suitable  type and dosage of emulsifier and additives to prepare emulsifier aqueous solution (soap liquid).

 

According to the different types of emulsified bitumen equipment and emulsifier, the manufacturing process of emulsifier aqueous solution (soap liquid) is also different. For the automatic continuous emulsified bitumen production equipment, each component of the soap liquid (water, acid, emulsifier, etc.) is automatically completed by the program which is set up by the production equipment itself. As long as the supply of each material is guaranteed, all these processes can be realized; for semi continuous type or intermittent type production equipment, the soap liquid should be manually prepared according to the formula requirements. Some emulsifier water solution needs to add acid to adjust pH value. Some (such as quaternary ammonium salt) do not need. Some solid emulsifiers at room temperature need to be heated and melted before preparing the soap liquid. Because the temperature of soap liquid is generally controlled between 55 and 75 degrees Celsius before entering the emulsification equipment

  1. Bitumen Emulsion

Put the rational preparation of bitumen and soap into the emulsifying machine together. After the mechanical action of pressurization, shearing and grinding, the bitumen will become uniform and fine particles. These particles will disperse evenly in the soap liquid and form bitumen emulsion. The appropriate temperature of emulsified bitumen should be around 85  degrees Celsius.

  1. Emulsion Storage

The emulsified bitumen comes out of the emulsifying machine and enters the storage tank after cooling. Mixing device shall be installed in a storage tank and be used to mix regularly. Because it can help to slow down the segregation of emulsified bitumen.

Calcium Aluminate Cement

Description of Calcium aluminate cement
Calcium aluminate cement, alumina cements or high alumina cements are obtained by the reaction at high temperature of lime (from limestone) and alumina (contained in natural minerals like bauxite). The product obtained after cooling is a hard mineral: calcium aluminate clinker. Ground into a fine powder, the clinker becomes calcium aluminate cement (CAC) which forms a paste when mixed with water. This has the ability to harden very quickly: it forms a rigid solid within 24 hours.
Application of calcium aluminate cement
There are two distinct ways to use calcium aluminates: as high-performance binders and as mineral reagents in a variety of industries.
As binders, calcium aluminates are used in concretes and mortars for specialized applications for their properties of resistance to corrosion, abrasion and heat combined with rapid hardening and the ease of controlling grading variations.
Calcium aluminate cements are also used in combination with other fine components. Hydraulic binders with new properties are then obtained. In this way, aluminates act as both a complex hydraulic binder and a mineral reagent interacting with the other components in the mix.
As reagents, calcium aluminates are found in non-hydraulic systems. This is the case in metallurgical treatments (iron and steel industry, foundry) where specific grades of calcium aluminate are used for their low-temperature melting properties and for trapping molten metal impurities.
Calcium Aluminate Cement Manufacturing Process:
1. When preparing refractory concrete, fix on the aggregate according to using condition. Choose the proper capacity graduation to make maximum density. Be noted to match and adapt with cementing material.
2. According to certain proportion, add water and mix by man or machine into mortar and then begin casting construction. Use up the ready mortar within 40 min. Calcium Aluminate  Cement’s hydration heat concentrate on early stage. Casting thickness should not exceed 3 cm each time. Water curing immediately when concrete goes hardening and the curing time should not less than 3 days.
3. When prepare expanding cement, Calcium Aluminate clinker’s dosage is 73-76%, CaSO4·2H2O dosage is 24-27%. When prepare self-stressing cement, the mixing ratio of CaSO4·2H2O should be increased.
Calcium Aluminate Cement Notice:
1. In order to avoid uncontrollable setting time, do not mix with Portland cement, lime etc of which separate out calcium hydroxide cementing material. Before use, clean all the mixing machinery.
2. Steam curing to accelerate concrete’s hardening. The curing temperature should not higher than 50℃.
3. Refractory concrete’s late strength decline big, design should according to the lowest stable strength. CA-50 bonded concrete’s lowest stable strength should be determined by the lowest strength of 7-14 days of demoulding sample curing in 20℃±1℃ water.

Cement Rotary Kiln

Kiln Refractory bricks offered by Oreworld Trade is widely applications for cement rotary kiln.
The very nature of Portland Cement is basic and hence the choice of kiln refractory for Rotary Cement Kiln is confined to mostly aluminous fireclay bricks or to basic refractory bricks.
Cement manufacturing process in a rotary kiln is such that according to temperature gradient in the kiln and the condition of raw materials inside, the kiln may be divided broadly into three zones. Properties and type of refractories for rotary cement kiln will depend on the conditions they will be exposed to in a particular zone of the kiln where it is to be used.

Resistance to High Temperature
The refractory has to withstand the temperatures that can prevail under adverse conditions as well as under normal conditions in the zone where it is being used. Not only does it require the ability to withstand high temperatures without melting (high PCE or refractoriness), it must also retain its shape & structure, maintain its structural strength below its melting point (HMOR - hot modulus of rupture), maintain a constant volume when exposed for prolonged times too high temperatures.

Spalling Resistance
Any shutdown, start-up, severe operating upset of rotary kiln is usually accompanied by large temperature changes in the kiln, and the refractory must possess the necessary thermal shock resistance to withstand such temperature variations. Failure to possess this property may cause the development of cracks, referred to as Spalling, horizontally along the refractory bricks. Spalling is a result of thermal shock and so, when a cold rotary kiln or any kiln is fired, the temperature must be raised slowly maintaining a time-temperature graph to avoid spalling.

Resistance to Chemical Attack
During the process of linearizing, ash, slag, and vapors formed during the combustion process can attack the refractory, reacting chemically with brick, depending on the type of fuel used. Furthermore, dust and alkalies entrained in the kiln gases can adhere to the refractory lining in the burning zone and react with the refractory. Refractories that do not have resistance to these chemical attacks will result in premature refractory failure.
Abrasion Resistance
Conditions encountered in a rotary cement kiln make it necessary that the refractory withstand the abrasive action resulting from the sliding kiln feed bed and also by dust entrained in the moving gas stream. This abrasion resistance is a prerequisite for all refractory bricks installed in front of and behind the burning zone where coating is not usually formed.

Coatability
One of the most important properties of refractories for the burning zone of rotary cement kiln where the highest temperatures exist is its ability to take on a good coating and to hold this coating for a prolonged length of time. Just as the refractory acts as a protection for the kiln-shell, so the coating, in turn, acts as a protection for the refractory, thus serving to prolong the campaign-life of the refractory lining in the burning zone of the cement kiln.
