The Young and the Hairless

These Men Are Young, Successful, Bald and Making a Difference

The_Young_and_the_Hairless

If you are interested in being referred to a hair loss treatment expert in your area, please complete the form at the end of this article.

Here are some young people proving to us that hair loss doesn't have to hamper happiness and the pursuit of success.

Hair loss is often associated with old age, but as those in the hair loss community know, hair loss can and very frequently does start while a man is in the prime of his life. This can be traumatic, but it’s important that a person doesn’t let this natural occurrence deter him in any way. There are countless examples of young people who are suffer from hair loss but don’t let that fact stop them from living the lives that they want. This article celebrates a small handful of these people.

A young heir who’s losing his hair

One of the most famous “youths” with hair loss is Prince William of Wales, the 28-year-old who is second in line to the throne of Great Britain. In recent months most of the coverage of the prince has centered on his upcoming wedding to Kate Middleton (and her stunning 18-carat sapphire engagement ring); however, before this big announcement, William was often in the tabloids because of his hair -- or increasing lack thereof. The royal’s bald spot is a topic of greater concern to some journalists than such trifling matters as his humanitarian work on behalf of the homeless, disaster victims and environmental issues; his duties with the RAF; or his qualifications to become the future king of England.

Young commoners doing uncommon things

Of course, most “under 30” members of the hair loss community aren’t likely to be ruling a country, but many have had considerable impact on people’s lives. For example, Ryan Block, who is about 28 years old and was listed as being worth $20 million in 2008, is a highly influential technology journalist and critic. During his tenure as editor in chief of Engadget, a technology news Web site, he posted a leaked e-mail that reportedly decreased Apple’s market capitalization by almost $4 billion.

Michael Seibel, 27, is co-founder and CEO of Justin.tv, which is helping to revolutionize the video-streaming world. Justin.tv, which started as a way for another co-founder to broadcast his own life 24 hours a day, is now a platform that allows live video streaming of numerous programs. With 1.5 million downloads of its app on iPhone, Justin.tv has made significant inroads in its desire to make live streaming more mobile.

Just about 30 years old, Michael Nardy has devoted the past 10 years of his life to his company, Electronic Payments, which he started in his college dorm room. Formed in 2000 to help process card and check transactions, it came along at the right time as more and more people and companies began habitually using debit and credit cards more frequently. By 2008, Electronic Payments’ revenues had grown to $17.6 million and it was processing $1.5 billion annually.

Sweden’s Daniel Ek may not have been losing hair when he started his first business at age 14, but 14 years later his hairline is definitely receding. That’s not the case with his fortunes, his talents or his drive: His resume includes stints as CTO of Stardoll (an online game that boasts about 80 million users); CEO of μTorrent, a data-sharing service that has had more than 100 million downloads; and founder of Advertigo, an advertising company. His most recent project is co-creating Spotify, a music-streaming service that has 10 million users.

The young aren’t all Internet focused

Joe Ordia, president and CEO of Ordia Solutions, will be turning 30 this year. In 2005 he co-founded the firm, which focuses on equipping public safety agencies and frontline personnel with (as per his bio) “interoperable technologies to effectively communicate, collaborate, coordinate, command and control” during a range of emergency situations.

Shawn Hay is perhaps an “iffy” for this list; it depends on whether one considers someone whose hair is really closely cropped as belonging in the “bald” classification. But assuming this is acceptable, Hay is noteworthy for being the owner of the Hey Papi Promotions Network Company, which radio station 93.9 WKYS named “the top Christian Marketing & Promotions Company in the DC metropolitan area.” Among the events he has promoted are the National Pan-Hellenic Council Community fundraiser; the Voices of Praise; Run-DMC’s Citywide Foster Care Adoption Walk and the 2010 Stellar Awards.

These individuals are just the tip of the bald iceberg; every day, men under 30 with high foreheads or shiny domes are creating new Internet advances, teaching the next generation of leaders, treating and curing the ill, or working on finding solutions to our most vexing problems. It’s not easy being young and balding, but these fine fellows won’t let a little thing like fewer follicles get in their way.

Press Release- KC Ford's 2011 How2Conference

Kc Ford is the creator of the 'How-To' Conference for Small, Minority and Disadvantaged Businesses. http://www.howtoconference.com

Frustrated with conferences that herald the millions of procurement dollars available for small businesses without much detail on how to tap into that market, business owner KC Ford of GettingThere4Him, Inc., founded the How2Conference to provide such details. This October marks the 7th conference to be held at the Comfort Inn in Bowie. These conferences are designed to help better prepare small, minority, and disadvantaged businesses bidding for prime and subcontracting opportunities with government agencies and commercial businesses seeking their services or products. Unlike many conferences where you may get just an overview on a topic, conference speakers have shared information of real value to attendees, empowering them to move forward in pursuit of available opportunities. You won't find a better venue to get answers that help propel your business to succeed in government and commercial contracting.

Venue: Comfort Inn, 4500 Crain Highway,, Bowie, Maryland, United States

Angelia Robinson- Official Music Video for Who R U?

Inspirational Recording Artist, Angelia Robinson, who is a spokesperson for the Diva By Cindy Brand as well as a Sunshine Promises Board Member really put her hands to the work on this day. Her music video "Who R U?" which touches the issue of being judged based on your past has been changing the lives of millions since its' debut. It was only fitting that it become a part of this very special day in order to bring even more empowerment to these women, many of whom have had their self-worth stripped from them. "I have worked in the human services field for over 20 years and at My Sister's Place Lodge for 9 years. I can say, I have never been to an event that did not parade the mentally challenged, the mentally ill, or the homeless; as these poor people let us help them. No one felt demeaned, talked down to, glared at, or pointed at because the circumstances of their lives lead them to where they are now. The greatest gift the ladies feel they received was being special and being loved; being loved unconditionally. " says Linda Day, Staff Coordinator at The Sisters Place Lodge of the feedback from the 1st Diva Project. We intend to keep this very same spirit with every Diva Project.

 The Diva Project May 2011

I would like to personally thank you for taking the time to read about and even consider supporting my vision to help women. This is my passion but I could never make it happen alone. God may be my source but he puts his people in position to help execute HIS purpose and plan for all of our lives.

Love and light,

Cindy

The Diva Project interview with Cindy Tawiah

THE VISION

The Daughter of Diplomats, Cindy Tawiah, was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. Pushed to pursue a career in medicine by her family, Cindy got her first taste of manufacturing when a chemistry teacher gave her a helping hand for a project. "He said, 'I'd like to teach you a practical application; I want to show you how to make lipstick and nail polish.' " It was then that the beauty seed was planted. Before that seed could grow Cindy, followed her parents' wishes and went on to receive a Bachelors degree and career in nursing. Still, something was missing in Cindy's life. "I was disillusioned, depressed. I prayed for a sign. If someone upsets today, it's a sign for me to leave, I wanted to leave and open up a hair salon." That morning as Cindy, went about her duties. She saw that sign, and immediately drafted her resignation letter. But the path to Cindy's dream wasn't easy. With no formal training or experience Cindy, set out to open her first salon. She was turned away from several different banks and multiple rental properties, but she persevered. Cindy, finally found someone who was willing to take a chance on her. In February of 2004, she began reaching out to victims of domestic violence in an effort to renew their sense of self-worth and self-esteem. Partnering with two local shelters, Cindy brought 40 women to her salon, where they received new winter coats (thanks to donations from community), a home-cooked meal and a full day of beauty, complete with facials, hairstyles and manicures. Cindy felt satisfied with the direction in which her life was headed, but at the end of 2006 she noticed she had quite a turnover rate in her salon. Unsure of what to do, she turned to her friend for advice. "He said, 'You need to find your purpose' and I thought "what is he talking about?" My passion is women and beauty. My purpose," I thought was my passion was beauty products. In February of 2007, Cindy, put together a plan of action. She wanted to create a line that was natural and alcohol free. That's when the Diva By Cindy, hair-care line was born. "I wanted them to be products of integrity, something I would use and stand by, something that would empower women; Hence the name, 'Diva.' "

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- Washington, D.C. WALKS FOR A CURE FOR LUPUS

Washington, D.C. - On Sunday, October 2nd 2011, thousands of D.C. area residents will join the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) for the Washington, D.C. Walk with Us to Cure Lupus at the National Mall Capitol Reflecting Pool beginning at 9 a.m. Ted Leonsis, Chairman
and Majority Owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment which owns the Washington Capitals (NHL), Wizards (NBA) and Mystics (WNBA), is chairing this year’s event. Last year’s D.C. ALR Walk generated more than $125,000, this year’s event is expected to raise $200,000
for lupus research, and will be held rain or shine. For more information on how you can participate contact the ALR office toll-free at 866-WALK ALR or visit walk.lupusresearch.org.

ABOUT LUPUS: Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which a person's immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own cells and tissues and can cause life-threatening damage to major organs such as the kidneys, lungs, heart and the central nervous system. Additionally, it is the leading cause of death among women with autoimmune diseases who are in their childbearing years (ages 15-45). No single test can be used to diagnose lupus, and it may
take several months or years after symptoms first appear for doctors to make a definitive. Approximately 1 in 200 Americans have lupus. Anyone can develop lupus, including children, but certain people are more likely to develop the disease. Nine out of ten people who have
lupus are women, and the disease usually strikes during the childbearing years. Lupus is three times more common in African-American women than in Caucasian women and is also more
prevalent in women of Latino, Asian, and Native American descent.

ABOUT THE ALLIANCE FOR LUPUS RESEARCH: The ALR was founded in 1999 by Robert Wood Johnson IV, a member of the founding family of Johnson & Johnson, and owner of the New York Jets. The mission of the Alliance for Lupus Research is to fund biomedical research
into the cause, treatment and ultimately the cure for lupus. 100% of every dollar donated to the ALR, including support for the Walk with Us to Cure Lupus program, goes to support lupus research programs because ALR’s Board of Directors funds all administrative and fundraising expenses.

MikeMike Winans, Jr. was born in Glendale, California three days after his dad Michael Winans Sr. had won his first Grammy Award in 1982. Once his parents, Michael and Regina boarded the plane heading back to their hometown Detroit, it was apparent that Mike Jr. would be a Musical Prodigy.

As the nephew/neice of (Bebe & Cece Winans), growing in a musical family of icons was a natural fit to work in the industry. Mike began his musical career as a high school freshman singing and writing songs for the concert and gospel choirs at Martin Luther King Jr. high school. During his junior year of high school, Mike along with his cousins Marvin Jr., Carvin Jr., and Juan formed the group Winans Phase 2 and signed a record deal with
Word/Sony Records. The group toured worldwide and accomplished many accolades including their nomination for a Grammy Award in 1999.

In 2002, Mike attended Schoolcraft College majoring in Business Administration. He graduated in 2004 and started Baby Mike Music Publishing Co. The company experienced success practically from the beginning. Mike went on to write and produce songs for several artists including New Edition, Avant, Diddy, Chris Brown, Danity Kane, Day 26, B5, Case, Michelle Williams and Mario Winans to name a few.
