trichlorethylene (1)

Trichloroethylene (TCE)

Uses of Trichlorethylene products (TCE)

  1. Cleaner

As a cleaning agent, it has a rapid development in the market of the cleaning of metal parts and electronic components market, mainly used in the various kinds of fields including color TV sets, refrigerators, cars, air conditioners, precision machinery and microelectronics industries for being used for cleaning metal parts and electronic components.

  1. Chemical Intermediates

It is currently used for the consumption of chemical intermediate areas. The domestic industrialized downstream products of trichlorethylene include tetrachlorethylene, hexachloroethane, dichloroacetyl chloride, octachlorodipropylether, HFC-134a, etc. It is mainly driven by the production of HFC-134a. Owing to the rapid industrialization of domestic production of HFC-134a, the ratio of trichlorethylene in the consumption structure as chemical intermediates has increased substantially.

  1. Other

As the solvent, extracting agent, its consumption is about 15% of total consumption, mainly used for the production of caprolactam, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Pesticides with trichlorethylene as the solvent include trichlorfon and dimethoate which are popular pesticides in China. The application of trichloroethylene being used as the extractant agent for purification of the pharmaceutical intermediates-methoxy-phthalic acid has also increased largely in recent years.Application of trichlorethylene in other areas of consumption includes expanding agent, coating of unsaturated resin, which accounts for 5%; application of PCE and refrigeration agents accounts about 10%.

CAS NO.:79-01-6

Trichloroethylene (TCE) is hard to dissolve in water but soluble in ethanol, ether and so on. TCE is a flammable liquid that can cause fire and explosion when exposed to open flame or high heat.

Hazardous characteristics: In case of fire and high heat energy, TCE is likely to explode. It can react with strong oxidants. When exposed to ultraviolet light or decomposed during combustion or heating, toxic phosgene and corrosive hydrochloric acid fumes are generated.

Combustion (decomposition) products: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and phosgene.

TCE was used as an analgesic and a metal degreaser. It can also be used as an extracting agent, bactericide and refrigerant, and a clothing dry cleaner. Prolonged exposure can cause trigeminal nerve palsy and other illnesses. As an excellent solvent, it is used as a metal surface treatment agent, a cleaning agent before plating and painting, and a metal degreaser and extracting agent of fats, oils and paraffin. It is applied in the organic synthesis and pesticide production. TCE is used in the production of tetrachloroethylene as an anthelmintic and hexachloroethane as an anthelmintic for veterinary use. It is utilized in chemical cleaning and industrial degreasing, and as chemical raw materials.

Invasion routes: by inhalation, ingestion, and percutaneous absorption.

Respiratory protection: You should wears self-priming filter gas masks (half masks) when you may be exposed to TCE vapors. You should rescue oxygen breathing apparatus in emergency rescue or evacuation.

Eye protection: Wear chemical safety glasses.

Physical protection: Wear anti-poison infiltration workwear.

 Hand protection: Wear protective gloves.

Others: No smoking, eating and drinking on job sites. After completing work, get bathed and have clothes changed. Store clothes that are contaminated with TCE alone as spare clothes. Pay attention to personal hygiene.
