Press Release: WACO, Texas (KWTX) Former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, the first player in Baylor history to win the Heisman Trophy, will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco on March 28, 2020. Griffin was a standout football player and hurdler at Copperas Cove High School before playing for the Baylor Bears.

As a junior, he recorded the nation's top prep time in the 400-meter hurdles (49.56), tied for the top mark in the 110 meter high hurdles (13.46) and was second in the 300-meter hurdles (35.33). Griffin also led his football team to a 13-2 record and a trip to the state championship game.

He earned All-American honors after finishing third at the NCAA championships in the 400-meter hurdles during his freshman year at Baylor. Griffin also won the Big 12 Conference championship in that event with a personal best time of 49.22. He placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials that summer.

During his junior season in 2011, Griffin led the Baylor football team to a 10-3 record while throwing for 4,293 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns. That season, Griffin also rushed for 644 yards with nine touchdowns. He won the Heisman that year. Griffin set 20 career records at Baylor and won the AP Player of the Year and the Davey O'Brien Awards. He was the 2nd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft for the Washington Redskins and was named the NFL's 2012 Rookie of the Year. He currently plays quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin will be one of the seven inductees honored at the Texas Sports Hall of fame on Mar. 28, 2020. He will be joined by former Texas Ranger baseman Adrian Beltre, former Houston Texan punter Shane Lechler, Olympic medalist Michelle Carter, International soccer star Clint Dempsey, former New York Liberty point guard Teresa Weatherspoon and five-time US Olympian runner Francie Larrieu Smith.

The reception at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame is at 4 p.m. at 1108 S. University Parks Drive in Waco. Tickets to the reception and banquet are $200 each or $1,400 for a reserved table of eight.
