Galvanized EMT Pipe

About Galvanized Electrical Pipe

Specification: 3/4”-6”

Raw Material: Q235, S235JR, SS400

EMT electrical pipe  scope of application: Excellent mechanical properties of the threading tube. Excellent corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance of the threading pipe and working pressure exceeding 2.5Mpa. The threading pipe has a smooth surface, small fluid resistance, no scaling, and is not suitable for breeding microorganisms. The coefficient of thermal expansion is small and does not shrink and deform. The epoxy coating layer of the threading pipe is more effective in solving the corrosion of metal pipes caused by water, buried and acid, alkali and salt, and the service life can reach more than 50 years.

ASTM A53 steel pipe

What is ASTM A53?

ASTM A53 is a carbon steel alloy which is used in structural steel or  low-pressure plumbing. ASTM International set by the alloy specifications including the specification of ASTM A53/A53M.

ASTM A53 Steel Pipe

ASTM A53 steel pipe is a standard specification for black and hot-dipped, zinc-coated, welded and seamless steel pipe, and is for mechanical and pressure applications as well as for steam, water, gas and air piping in general use. ASTM A53 can be formed and welded. Specify the correct pipe size using the nominal pipe size (NPS). This is the nominal pipe diameter for specified wall thickness (i.e., 4 inch Schedule 40 pipe). ASTM A53 grade b erw pipe is determined according to the nominal pipe size (NPS) system. It is usually available with national pipe thread ends or with plain cut ends. It can be used for the transportation of steam, water, and air. It is also weldable and can be used in structural applications, although A53b steel pipe tub, which is available in the same NPS sizes, is sometimes can be the first choice.

Executive standard: ASTM A53 welded steel pipe for low-pressure fluid transportation ASTM A53 straight seam electric welded steel pipe" Q/HBTC 001-2016 "welded steel pipe"

Scope of application: conveying low-pressure fluids such as water, air, heating steam and gas; structural use such as machinery and construction.

ASTM A500 steel pipe

ASTM A500 Steel Pipe

ASTM A500 is the standard specification for circular, square, and rectangular tubes of cold-formed welded and seamless carbon steel structures. ASTM A500 is the most common specification for Hollow Structural Sections in North America. The correct way to specify the circular HSS section is to represent the outer diameter in decimal inches to three decimal places (i.e., 5.563 x 0.250) according to the nominal wall thickness.

Why A500 Steel Pipe?

Since ASTM A500 is a structural specification, circular high-speed steel produced according to this specification is suitable for structural applications and general construction purposes. ASTM A53 is a pipe specification for mechanical and pressure applications.

The specified yield strength of  A500 Grade b Pipe(the most commonly available grade) is 46 ksi.  The specified yield strength of A53 Grade B is 35 ksi.  Yield strength increased by more than 30%.  Therefore, the strength to weight ratio of A500 circular HSS is greater than that of A53 pipe. So, if you do the job with round HSS, you need less steel, by weight, to do the job—the lighter it is, the lower the cost.

The tolerances of A500 are tighter than those of A53, so the HSS of the A500 circle has higher quality and less variability.

Round HSS has a superior surface finish and is not as lacquered as normal A53 tubes.  Since this lacquer coating needs to be removed from the A53 pipe to accommodate welding and painting, so this can save money and time.

A53 pipe is available in standard pipe sizes only.  Round HSS is available in various sizes and wall thicknesses. Just look at the 14th edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual and see how many pages there are of circular HSS with A53 tubes.

Last but not the least, the ASTM A53 Specification requires testing (i.e., pressure testing) for structural applications. This additional testing adds unnecessary additional costs.

Astm A500 Grade C Pipe Applications

All steel structures have their pros and cons including tructural supports, building columns, highway signs, oil field services and communication towers, to name a few. But ultimately ASTM A500 is a better choice when you need a round profile.

We encourage architects, fabricators, structural engineers and contractors to read up on ASTM A500 and visit The Steel Tube Institute's website because it offers a wide variety of technical publications, load tables and design aids.
