Why Do Different Particle Size Analyser Produce Different Results?

In particle sizing, we often encounter a situation: for the same sample, different instruments could produce different results. Some powder manufacturers and users tend to judge the quality of products based on their own data, resulting in different quality reports. There are several reasons for this issue, mainly including:

(1) The theories used by different instruments are different. The measured particles are mostly irregular and non-spherical. When different theories are employed, the equivalent particle size measured by different instruments will be different. Therefore, the measuring results are different.

(2) For instruments using the same theory, the measured particle size may be very different if the calibration system is different.

(3) It may be caused by the difference in instrument status, resolution, parameter settings, etc.

(4) The test conditions such as dispersion time, dispersant, shading rate, and medium are different.
