I remember Valentine’s Day in elementary school where my classmates and I would bring a card for every student. Prior to that day, daddy would go to the local drug store and get a pack of whatever character that was popular for me to write everyone’s name on it.
And I would wait with anticipation for the boy who I had a crush on to give me mines with either an extra special note on it or a heart. :>) If he did, my friends and I would giggle all day long as we shared our cards with each other.
Well, now I am grown and I still love Valentine’s Day. Whether I am in a relationship or not, I share my love with those who are close to me that day and every day.
But the premise behind Valentine’s Day is that couples celebrate their love toward one another.
I am a poet at heart and whenever I am inspired by either a life situation or something that I see or hear, I write. Last year, I wrote a poem, “Our Love Expressed Between You and Me,” as a tribute to the love that I saw between the late Reginald Sanders and his wife, Minister Dawn Sanders.
When I heard that Reginald passed, June 9, 2011, I responded to Minister Dawn with an e-mail. And as I was sitting at my computer typing my condolences, I was inspired to write that poem.
Therefore, I wanted to share it with you as a reminder this Valentine season that if you love someone, they should know it by the way you show it. :>) Happy Valentine’s Day!
Our Love Expressed Between You and Me
By Phenola Moore
Our Love expressed between you and me so vividly for others to see.
Wonderful memories so strong that will last throughout eternity.
Holding hands, caressing, glances from across the room.
Precious and joyous times. Oh, I can never tell it all.
Only a few years, getting to know you and you me.
But I wouldn’t trade our time together because loving you set me emotionally free.
Loving God and each other brought us such ecstasy.
And that’s what will sustain me until I reach eternity.
Our love expressed between you and me.
