1. The Time of Redemption
a. There is a past, present, and future deliverance - 2 Cor 1:10
b. Christ’s death provided the strength of redemption – Rom 3:24
c. We have the present redemption from sins – Col 1:13-14
d. We are waiting for a future redemption of our inheritance – Eph 1:13-14, 4:30
e. We wait for the redemption of our bodies – Rom 8:23
2. The Power to Redeem
a. The law required a redeemer to be able to pay the price – Lev 25:26, Ruth 4:4-6
b. Body: The preaching of the cross is the power of God – 1 Cor 1:18, Rom 1:16
i. The power of God to redeem from the power of darkness - Col 1:13
ii. The power of his resurrection – Eph 1:19-20, Phil 3:10
c. Israel: A redeemer requires strength, God is strong to redeem – Psa 19:14
i. The Lord of hosts is strong with Israel!- Jer 50:33-34
ii. His death was at first seen as a sign of weakness – Luke 1:68, 24:21
iii. But, resurrection has power! – Isa 25:8, Acts 2:24, Heb 2:14-15
3. The Redemption from Sin and Death
a. Body: We have present redemption from sins – Eph 1:7, Col 1:14
i. Sin and death have no more dominion over us – Rom 6:9,14
ii. We are redeemed from the curse of the law – Gal 3:13
b. Israel: God promised to redeem Israel from sin and death – Psa 130:8, Hos 13:14
i. Their redemption from sins was obtained but not fully delivered – Acts 3:19
ii. Christ obtained redemption to be delivered later - Heb 9:12, 26-28
iii. It was eternal, not temporary like the blood of bulls – Heb 9:12, 15
iv. They were redeemed from the vain conversation - 1 Pet 1:18-19
v. Vain conversation = religious people walking in sin - Mat 16:11,12, 23:23
4. The Redeemed Inheritance
a. Body: Our inheritance is in heavenly places – Eph 2:6, 3:10, 15
i. Our blessings are in heavenly places – Eph 1:3
ii. Our conversation is in heaven – Phil 3:20
b. Israel: Their redemption was the return of their inheritance – Isa 63:16-17
i. Their redemption comes at the return of the Lord in power – Luke 21:28
ii. They seek a continuing city to come – Heb 13:8
iii. They were promised a kingdom on the earth – Mat 6:10, Isa 2
