Fruitfulness in leadership is not the result of training , location , or resources . It is the result of abiding in Christ . Jesus taught the first leaders this principle when He said , ''Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes , that it may bear more fruit '' ( John 15 ;2 ) . As a branch must be in the vine to bear fruit , so must the fruit- bearing leader be in Christ . Effectiveness in leadership is a result of abiding in Christ . He declared , ''I in him , bears much fruit ; for without Me you can do nothing'' ( John 15:5 ) . These words must have brought great joy and reassurance to those early leaders . They were not alone . They were part of Jesus , and they would bear much fruit .
