The Young People’s Division of Allen Chapel AME Church Silver Spring invite you to join them for the first of a series of workshops entitled Pillow Talk: Pulling the Covers Off Of HIV/AIDS on Saturday, November 14 at 6pm. This series is designed for teens & young adults (ages 13-30 only) to educate and train them for the world in which we live today. Each workshop (rap session) will be facilitated by a trained professional educated on that particular topic and how to effectively teach and reach the younger generation. This first session will be facilitated by Pastor Lisa Connors, Community Health Educator/SISTA & Speaker's Bureau Coordinator at the Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, DC.We are extending the invitation to individuals, church groups and community organizations to come out and join us for this event. Not only is HIV/AIDS a rising concern in our country as a whole, but in our community as well. The DC Department of Health's HIV/AIDS Administration has confirmed that more than 15,000 people in the Washington metropolitan area live with AIDS and 81 percent of all AIDS cases are among African-Americans. Nationwide, someone under the age of 25 is infected with HIV every 30 minutes.
