From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Juneteenth is hosted by: Senator Ulysses S. Currie; Prince George’s County Council member Samuel H. Dean, District 6; and Samuel J. Parker, Jr., Chairman of the Prince George’s County Planning Board of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
