  • Kommunity Festival 2010 !!!

  • Location: Sylvan Theater (Next to The Washington Monument)
  • Description: The 4th Annual Kommunity Festival, which will be held on the National Mall at the Sylvan Theater on July 10 – 11, 2010, is an outdoor program for providing community support services for the homeless and hungry, the under-employed and unemployed, the sick, the illiterate, and the oppressed. The theme for 2010 is “Reaching Back to Yesterday to Save Tomorrow.” Saturday, July 10, 2010 will feature a health fair, including HIV/AIDS and other medical screenings, along with activities such as youth boxing, clowns, face painting, a live music concert, dance, and motivational speakers. These activities will include a tribute to the late O.D. Dickerson, founder of the Faces Project, which promotes health fairs for African, African American, and Latino men. Sunday, July 11, 2010 is devoted to an all-day Gospel Explosion consisting of youth praise, liturgical dance, and gospel music styles ranging from traditional to Go-Go, all culminating in a good ole fashion Gospel Revival in the evening.   • Description: The mission of the Virtuous W.O.M.E.N. retreat is to provide a safe haven for the wives of the men who minister the gospel with instruments and the preached word across the US and abroad. Not restricted by denomination, ethnicity, age or status constraints, the VW Retreat seeks to nurture/create a sacred sisterhood amongst the members of the group. It is the goal and expressed purpose of this retreat to break down the invisible walls that have disallowed women to truly be their sisters' keepers. Through prayer, Bible-based training, and concise developmental exercises, it is our goal that individuals will be inspired spiritually, economically and personally to be the catalyst for a healthier, more prosperous family unit, but also commit to a more responsible attitude for the well-being of her extended family of sisters in the local churches and across the globe.

    Kimberly Gaskins portrays Melody Rich, who can put her feelings into music since she was a little girl. However, she becomes timid when the entertainment industry does not have room for a full-figured woman or appreciate gospel music. Growing up on her father's soul food cooking causes memories of childhood obesity to resurface. Especially when her daddy's sassy and health-conscious wife, Viva, is around. Melody is tired of not singing her songs and desperately seeks to eliminate her weight. In an attempt to look and feel like a diva, she comes to grips with whether losing weight is about vanity or a matter of life or death. A live gospel experience that will inspire dreams to soar!
