  • Description: The 4th Annual Kommunity Festival, which will be held on the National Mall at the Sylvan Theater on July 10 – 11, 2010, is an outdoor program for providing community support services for the homeless and hungry, the under-employed and unemployed, the sick, the illiterate, and the oppressed. The theme for 2010 is “Reaching Back to Yesterday to Save Tomorrow.” Saturday, July 10, 2010 will feature a health fair, including HIV/AIDS and other medical screenings, along with activities such as youth boxing, clowns, face painting, a live music concert, dance, and motivational speakers. These activities will include a tribute to the late O.D. Dickerson, founder of the Faces Project, which promotes health fairs for African, African American, and Latino men. Not restricted by denomination, ethnicity, age or status constraints, the VW Retreat seeks to nurture/create a sacred sisterhood amongst the members of the group. It is the goal and expressed purpose of this retreat to break down the invisible walls that have disallowed women to truly be their sisters' keepers. Through prayer, Bible-based training, and concise developmental exercises, it is our goal that individuals will be inspired spiritually, economically and personally to be the catalyst for a healthier, more prosperous family unit, but also commit to a more responsible attitude for the well-being of her extended family of sisters in the local churches and across the globe.
