Be sure to register soon for the 2018 BLACK AUTHORS AND READERS ROCK WEEKEND! This fifth annual celebration of authors, readers, and the written word, will be held Friday and Saturday, September 14-15 at the Harborside Hotel, 6400 Oxon Hill, RD, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
Award winning author, screenwriter and producer Lolita Files is the keynote speaker; Tina McElroy Ansa, novelist, publisher, teacher, filmmaker and journalist, will be awarded the 2018 BARR Literary Legend of the Year Award.
“This year BARR has moved to a new venue and added Friday Expo hours (4 to 6:00 pm)”, says Barr Founder, Sharon Lucas, “And I am pleased to announce, along with my local book club, The Reading Divas, the addition of two new book club partners, Sugar and Spice of NY and the Literary Ladies of NJ, with whom we have partnered to extend our audience to new writers and readers.”
The conference will kick off with three workshops aimed to enrich the emerging or soon to be published author, followed by a book club meeting with Ms. Ansa about her popular book, The Hand I Fan With. Attendees are in for a treat that evening when they will hear from a panel of four bestselling male authors, Brian W. Smith, Victor McGlothin, Blacc Topp and Keith Thomas Walker, followed by a reception/party in honor of Ms. Ansa.
Saturday the Author Expo, featuring a mix of 30 new and established authors – including award winning romance writer Donna Hill, bestselling Christian fiction writer Tiffany Warren,and local suspense writer Norwood Holland- will run from 9 AM to 4 PM. Two workshops will be offered that morning, “So You Want to write A Book”, and “How to Maximize your Book Club Experience”. The luncheon will begin at noon, followed by presentations, awards and door prizes.
