Vision and word of the president, The Montréalfest festival celebrates the sound, the message as well as the rhythms of the gospel music; a music singing peace, love, joy, forgiveness and harmony between people. Behind these melodious sounds, there is a whole message of harmony which transcends races, people, nations and civilizations.

This music is a quiet force which breaks the barriers of intolerance, ignorance, incomprehension, hatred and racism. If music brings joy to the ravaged hearts, gospel music cures wounds and heals broken hearts. This music has an impressive historical course, from its African roots, its birth under difficult conditions in the cotton fields of the South of the United States, while passing by Chicago, Harlem, Halifax, and all North America; it has become today the music of hope and joy for all humanity. During this historical course, the gospel and its cousin or ancestor the Negro spiritual, without losing its letters of nobility gave rise to several musical kinds like jazz, blues, soul, R&B, rap, funk, etc. It means all Montreal celebrates gospel music. |
