Around the World Fashion Show Featuring Foster/Adopted Youth
MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR FOSTER /ADOPTION YOUTH
WASHINGTON, DC- The Billy Eckstine-Duke Ellington Theatre located on 1400 First Street, NW in the District of Columbia will host an Around the World Fashion Show featuring foster/adopted youth on Saturday, August 18, 2012. The organizer of this event is WHALER’S Creation a local non-profit organization that promotes foster care and adoption in the Arts and media. The Eckstine-Ellington Theatre will be rocking with foster youth and local models from the DMV. Models and designers are working to raise funds to secure a new home for programs and services on behalf of hundreds of foster youth. This event is overseen and featured by foster/adopted youth.
WHALER’s Creation spoke’s model Loney is a 20 year old foster youth currently pursuing a social work degree with plans to obtain her law degree in the near future. Loney, "I am completely honored to support WHALER’s Creation and the work we do to help foster youth create a voice in the community through the Arts and media. We are changing the lives of foster youth by preparing them to be self-sufficient, independent and confident."
WHALER’s Creation is a non-profit organization developed to help foster youth build and strengthen families through collaboration, communication, advocacy and outreach by promoting foster care and adoption in the Arts and Media. Executive Director La’ Toria Hickmon-Kern, says, “We are excited about this event and want to promote the work of these amazing youth”
There are more than 500 children waiting to be adopted in the DC, MD, and VA Area.
