IABT founder Dr. Tekemia Dorsey receives the Governor’s Citation & Baltimore Mayor Pugh recognition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 16, 2018 The International Association of Black Athletes (IABT) founder Dr. Tekemia Dorsey received the Governor’s Citation in recognition of a tribute to honor the world’s first youth and junior tri-conference hosted in Maryland at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Baltimore, MD. - The IABT / IABT Multisport Racing Youth & Junior Tri-Conference® / Expo Event held its 1st Youth and Junior Tri-Conference in the world and the first one held on an Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campus on July 14, 2018 from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM at Morgan State University, Student Development Center, 1700 E. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, Maryland 21251. This year, elected officials, community leaders, came out to celebrate this spectacular event. James D. Fielder, Secretary of Maryland Higher Education Commission presented the Citation from Governor Larry Hogan. Catherine E. Pugh, Mayor of the City of Baltimore offered words of encouragement to the youth. Our special surprise guest was Jacqueline Griffin, motivational speaker and mother of RG III (NFL Baltimore Ravens Quarterback). Rob Howze, celebrity fitness trainer served as the co-host & moderator. Many community leaders came out to show support; Stanley Brandford, Democratic Candidate For Baltimore City Sheriff, Jeffrey D. Schutter, Staff Sergeant United States Army, and Beth Baumgarten, Marymount University, Head Coach, Women’s & Men’s Triathlon Team. Baltimore City Recreation and Parks rep Ciarra Harris (Chief of Staff for Director Reginald Moore) was also in attendance. The conference consisted of TRI Clinics and a Youth & Junior Tri-Panel. Topic categories included Education, Health & Wellness, Workforce Development, Career & College Readiness, Personal Growth & Development and the Multisport Industry. There were several speakers/presenters at the conference; Jessica Welk from the USA Triathlon, Dr. Rashida Leverett, Victoria Proctor, Dr. Sharon Shakespeare, Mr. Sharif Smalls, Dr. Sharon H. Porter, Lisa Henry and Christine Hart-Wright. The conference featured a Youth Tri-Conference Panel, the participants were; BJ Simons, Halee Simons, Heaven Simons, Timothy Willoughby, and Maliajah Brinkley-Tyson. The conference featured five dual tracks, representing over 15 presentations on key topics for the advancement of those living in urban communities and black youth in the multisport industry. The goal remained to educate attendees of the benefits of not just the sport but opportunities that the multisport industry has to offer in terms of college, scholarship, career advancements, internships, etc. The conference also received over $15,000 of sponsorship services and donations. Some of the event sponsors were Youth Runner Magazine, USA Triathlon Foundation, Morgan State University, Morgan State University Morgan Community Mile, Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, Thompson Hospitality Services LLC, NUUN, Rocket Science Sports, etc. IABT is the only International African American and Women Owned Non-profit Humanitarian Charitable organization in the multisport industry, headquartered in Baltimore, MD. IABT Multisport Racing is the only African American and Women Owned Multisport Racing Company in the country. IABT / IABT Multisport Racing organizations joint efforts serve as a pipeline of opportunity for all including adults, but especially black youth and those living in urban communities. IABT / IABT Multisport Racing joint goals remain to educate and to increase participation in the sport as well as provide opportunities to work in the multisport industry.
