Grants & Scholarships

The Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship is designed to help students complete their education by covering costs beyond the federal, state, and other grants and scholarships they receive.

The Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship is built on the premise that a lack of financial resources should not be a deterrent to earning an associate degree or industry-recognized licensure or credential from Prince George’s Community College. 

The Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship Program will cover tuition and fees for eligible students.

To be eligible, a student must be:

• a high school graduate from Prince George's County (within the last two years)
• a resident of Prince George's County
• a first-time college student (no previous college experience other than dual enrollment)

Requirements for students seeking an associate degree:

1. Must enroll in an associate degree program at Prince George's Community College.
2. Must have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application on file with the Student Financial Aid Office. Prince George’s Community College School Code is 002089. If ineligible for FAFSA, complete the Maryland State Financial Aid Application (MSFAA).
3. Must meet minimum score requirements on the college placement exam that allow placement into at least EGL-0100 and MAT 0104/0092. 

* Student may exempt portions of the Accuplacer by scoring a 480+ on the evidence-based reading and writing section or 530+ on the math section of the SAT, scoring 21+ on sections of the ACT, or earning a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students will need to show documentation of scores.

To maintain the scholarship:

1. Must successfully complete 30 credits every academic year (this includes fall, winter/spring, and summer).
2. Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
3. Must file a FAFSA/MSFAA every year by March 1.
4. Must successfully complete the degree within three years of the award.
5. Must comply with all programming requirements of the Prince George's County Promise Scholarship program.

Requirements for students seeking licensure or certification:

1. Must enroll in a workforce program that leads to eligible licensure or professional certification.
2. Must complete the licensure or certification within the prescribed timeline, maintaining continuous enrollment. Students will receive funding for their first credential only.

To maintain the scholarship:

1. The recipient must exhibit progress as determined by the course/program assessments.

Amount Available

The scholarship award will be calculated after all other grants and scholarships have been applied to tuition and fees.

Priority Deadline is March 1 (applications will be accepted after March 1)

• Apply to Prince George's Community College (Associate degree seekers complete the PG Promise section on the college application).
• Complete your FAFSA or MSFAA (Associate degree seekers only).
• Submit the scholarship application (Application required for continuing education applications only).

Complete by July 1

• Submit your final, official high school transcript.
• Complete New Student Orientation.
• Take the placement test or show exemptions.
• Register for courses.
